BMH-iBantu Launches a Blockchain-Based Crowdfunding Platform for Islamic Digital Philanthropy

Jakarta, November 28, 2024 – In a bold step towards modernizing philanthropy, Baitul Maal Hidayatullah (BMH), in partnership with iBantu Solusi Syariah, has officially launched berbagi.bmh.or.id, a blockchain-powered crowdfunding platform designed to transform the landscape of zakat management.

Themed “Sharing in the Digital Era: Transparency and Trust for the Future”, the launch event was held in Jakarta and brought together key stakeholders from philanthropic, technological, and institutional backgrounds. The platform represents a milestone in leveraging technology to create more transparent and secure donation processes.

The platform, powered by blockchain technology, aims to address longstanding concerns about transparency and accountability in the philanthropic sector. Blockchain's decentralized and tamper-proof system enables donors to monitor every transaction in real time, ensuring their contributions are used as intended.

“Blockchain fundamentally changes the way we think about trust,” explained Mohammed Nazzar Hamzah, Director of Technology at iBantu. “This platform ensures every donation is recorded immutably, allowing us to build a more reliable and transparent ecosystem for giving.”

Reimagining the Donation Experience

BMH Chairman, Firman Zainal Abidin, highlighted the transformative potential of berbagi.bmh.or.id. “This initiative represents a new era in philanthropy—one where donors can engage confidently, knowing their contributions are making a real and measurable impact. It's not just about technology; it’s about creating trust and delivering results,” he stated.

Sharia Principles at the Core

Trust and responsibility are key pillars of the platform, reflecting the principles of Sharia-compliant philanthropy. Prof. Dr. KH. Noor Achmad, MA, representative of Baznas RI, emphasized, “This platform is a testament to the value of amanah (trust) in managing resources responsibly for the community's benefit. It ensures donations are aligned with ethical and religious standards.”

What’s Next?

The launch event, attended by prominent figures such as Damar Hulan Osman (CEO of iBantu), Salman Abdurrubi Perwiragama (Project & Operations Manager), Baznas and BMH, concluded with a commitment to ongoing innovation. Plans include expanding the platform’s features and scaling its reach to support even more communities.
